honest materials.
Pressed glass and polished chrome, used as themselves. Nothing is painted, wrapped or made to look like something it isn't.
recast: to change the form, structure or organisation of something.
We take familiar architectural materials and give them a new role in the home. Version 001 starts with the glass block.
For most of the last century, glass blocks were built into walls, stairwells and basements. They were there to let light through, never to be looked at.
Three rules every Recast object has to follow.
Pressed glass and polished chrome, used as themselves. Nothing is painted, wrapped or made to look like something it isn't.
Light is designed in, not added on. A CRI 90 LED sits beneath the glass with an in-line dimmer: warm white for the evening, and 15 colour films for when you want a change.
Each Version starts with one familiar architectural form and stays with it until it's right. Version 001 is the glass block.
Recast started with a simple question: what happens when you take a building material out of the wall and give it a room of its own?
Block 01 is the first answer. Every version after it will start the same way: with something familiar, looked at again.
